An ethnoveterinary study on plants used for in the treatment of livestock diseases in Ayvalık (Balıkesir, Turkey)

In this study, the medicinal plants used in treatment of livestock diseases by rural people living Ayvalık district (Balıkesir) were determined. addition, how and for what purposes these are was investigated. A total 50 informants such as breeders, shepherds farmers selected randomly study. Data collected through semi-structured interview, focus group discussions, observation guided field walk with informants. The data analyzed RFC, ICF, UV, FL, PPV FUV. 46 taxa distributed 44 genera belonging to 25 families identified commonly ethnomedicinal diseases. most cited Hypericaceae (FUV = 0.7), Oleaceae 0.6), Pinaceae 0.4) Amaryllidaceae 0.35). majority remedies prepared from infusion (53.9%). Leaves frequently plant part (PPV 0.31) Hypericum perforatum subsp. veronense (UV) species prescribed local people. reported ailments classified into 11 disease categories based on ICF values highest number treat gastrointestinal, lactation, dermatological parasitic disorders. results study showed that still dependent aromatic animal documented can serve a basis further studies region’s knowledge future phytochemical pharmacological studies.
